Free Abu-Jamal and condemn death penalty

Mumia Abu-Jamal, journalist and author condemned for homicide in 1981, is nowadays the only North American political prisoner in death row.

From the beginning, the prosecution required his execution for the death of a police officer, even if the proves weren’t obvious and if the judge and the jury were suspiciously chosen.

Robert R. Bryan, Mumia’s lead counsel, was today in the European Parliament to discuss anti death penalty activities around the world and to ask for the support of Jamal case as a symbol of human rights achievement.

The audition was organized by Sabine Lösing (Germany) and Søren Søndergaard (Denmark), who appealed for signatures for the petition to Barak Obama requesting that he ends the death penalty in the USA and all over the world, and takes Mumia away from death row.

The case of Mumia is emblematic because he hasn’t stop fight for human rights in the world since he’s in jail and curiously he has more listeners now than before but the situation got worse, not only because of his non experienced lawyers in the beginning of the process but also because of 9/11 mentality. “The governor of Pennsylvania said that he wanted to see Abu-Jamal dead during his administration. The only hope is that Obama makes pressure on him and that is the point where we need your signatures and support” Robert Bryan defended.

R. Bryan declared that "racism, fraud and prejudice are threads that have occurred in this the case since its beginning. I cannot comment on what happened at the time of the shooting, because we must wait until a new jury trial to present those facts but I do know that he didn’t had a fair trial and that the conditions in which he’s living for three decades now are inhuman.'"

At the moment over 18,000 people from around the world have signed the petition "Mumia Abu-Jamal and the Global Abolition of the Death Penalty" that is planned to be eventually presented to President Barack Obama by a distinguished international delegation, including Nobel Prize laureates, who already signed.
