The pacific movements of resistance are our most powerful weapon

Luisa Morgantini, former vice-president of the European Parliament (EP) and former-member of the group GUE/NGL, participated today in a debate about the last developments in Israel and Palestine, and enhanced the efforts made by the Palestinian pacific resistance movements as the “only form to move forward without provoking confrontations with the Israelis”.

“In a conflict whose responsibility keeps on the international community side, that pacifically assists to the resolutions and the agreements total disrespect by the Israeli authorities”, the former MEP alerted about the advance of the extreme right wing in Israel and the consequent reduction of the freedom of speech against the youth that defends the Palestinian side and a nonviolent resolution of the conflict.

The former vice-president of the EP told to the audience that more than 150 Israeli university professors had signed a manifesto in which they support the artists who refused to make presentations in the colonies, particularly in Ariel, where it was recently inaugurated a cultural center, thus giving one more signal that the resistance inside the country still exists.

In the eve just before the peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians restart in Washington, Luisa Morgantini, lamented the military attack that victimized four Israelis near Kiryat Arba, in the south of Hebron, and condemned the declarations of Netanyahu on the construction of new colonies in the West bank, seen by the Hamas as a pre boycott for the retake of the conversations, stopped 20 months ago.

“The current negotiations are only of the interest of Israel and of U.S.A. and the declarations of the Israeli leader show its line of action on the peace process”, defended MEP Miguel Portas, remembering the inhumane conditions where the Palestinians live without any power over the use of water or electricity in the region.

Luisa Morgantini also valued the efforts of Fayyad in the infrastructures construction although the occupation and reaffirmed the necessity of the agreements of Oslo being recognized, alleging that “the time of the Palestinians arrived, they should be endowed with a proper state and live in freedom - more than 65 percent of the population never knew freedom and live in destroyed houses. We must suspend the association agreements and charge to the Israelis the price of the occupation.” The former MEP led, two weeks, an Italian delegation in the Jordan Valley and the city of Al-Farisya, after the demolition of more than one hundred habitations and structures by the Israeli army.
