Humula’s victory: Another step towards the left in Latin America has been taken
The victory of general Ollanta Humala in the presidential elections of Peru represents a conquer over imperialistic and strategic economical policies of the United States."We have long waited for a government that really cares about the poor", Ollanta Humala declared just after the announcement of his triumph in Peru.
Hundreds of Peruvians got together on the 5th of June to celebrate the victory of Gana Peru, the Left Alliance led by Humala. He has won the second round of governmental elections this Sunday, with nearly 3% ahead of its rival, Keiko Fujimori, daughter of former dictator. He got his best percentage in the South, a poor and vulnerable region, with between 60% and 77%, and Fujimori prevailed in the North, including Lima, the richer part.
Humala said that he "would just listen to the Peruvian people" and that he would carry out his project of democratic and social transformation. After the elections, the winner reiterated his promises of massive job creation, housing construction and development access to basic services, as water and electricity.
