"The Gaza blockade must end IMMEDIATELY"

The UN secretary general, Ban-ki-moon, asked yesterday for “immediate lift of the blockade of Gaza” which is impeding the region to receive goods to rebuild the city and food and medicines for the million and half of people that live in inhuman conditions.

He made this comments came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared it was vital for security that the blockade stayed in place. In the previous day, EU representatives present in the Foreign Affairs Committee Meeting also reaffirmed this position and declined the explanations from the Israeli ambassador for the EU. Both EU and UN admitted that the blockade was "counter-productive, unsustainable and wrong" and that the impunity of Israel cannot be accepted this time.

Security Council and the EU also called for independent, plausible investigation of the  Israeli attack and  the immediate release of the ships as well as the civilians held. Israel agreed and said it would deport 682 activists from more than 35 countries but although the media is reporting that all are being released which is false, according to Free Gaza organization.

The European Left have consider the attacks of last Monday as an act of state terrorism, which demands political consequences and urged the immediate suspension of any treaty of economic, commercial or military cooperation between the EU and Israel.

The EL gives its full support for the actions of the peace movement and stresses the need to increase international support for the Palestinian people's cause and right to self determination. We call on the Israeli peace movement and all democratic and political forces in Israel to resist the policy of ongoing siege against the civilian population in Gaza, and to intensify its struggle to find a political solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of two independent, political and economically sustainable states, based on international law and on the full implementation and respect for UN resolutions 338, 194, 242. Action is needed now!
