A successfull meeting of the EL campaign in Paris
On the 3 of May, about 1,000 people gathered in Paris to attend the meeting of the European Left Party, organised in coordination with the “Front de gauche” ( French communist party, Left party, Unit left).
The meeting was titled “ Pact for the euro: for a counter-offensive by the peoples”. Its purpose was to reveal the contents of the pact to citizens, to appeal for a mobilisation in France against the economic choises adopted in the last european summit, and to present the ELP's proposals to exit from the crisis and to change Europe.
Patrick Le Hyaric (french MEP – GUE-NGL) and Martine Billard (french MP) introduced the meeting.
Three European guests, Maite Mola, Alexis Tsipras, vice-presidents of the ELP, Merdhad Payandeh, Director of the economic, financial & fiscal policies of the DGB (German trade union), shared with the public their experience, their proposals and their determination to fight against the « pact for the euro ».
Three actors of the french social movement, Aurelie Trouvé (Attac), Pierre Khalfa (Copernic foundation), Jean-Marc Canon (CGT), interviewed by Elisabeth Gauthier from Tranform !, presented their positions and their actions.
Then, the three leaders of the Front de gauche, Pierre Laurent (national secretary of the PCF, president of the ELP), Christian Picquet (spokesman of the Unit Left) and Jean-Luc Mélenchon (Co-president of the Left Party) presented the basis for the left political alternative in France and in Europe.
