Milk producers protest in front of the European Parliament
Dozens of farmers, milk trade unions delegations and producers from all over Europe have responded on Wednesday, may 4th, to the appeal of the European Milk Board (EMB) to protest in front of the European Parliament, in Brussels, against the situation of milk, always obliging producers to lower productions costs and prices.
Indeed, the current situation is dramatic for thousands of producers - each year one milk exploitation over ten disappears in Europe.
In the coming weeks, European parliamentarians will have to vote on a reform of the dairy market, and farmers come therefore to directly present their claims.
According to Romuald Schaber, President of the EMB; "it is very important that this reform would ensure a high quality and sustainable dairy production in the European Union." A fair income for producers of milk would be a sine qua non for a healthy and environmentally responsible production of milk. ยป
